The Great Food Truck Race, a popular show from the Food Network, that was filmed in Solvang several months ago will be airing on Sunday, September 11. The episode titled “Family Face-Off: An Egg-cellent Adventure” will broadcast at 9 p.m. PDT.

“We were thrilled to be contacted by the TV show’s producers this spring. Then, they decided to come to Solvang and we helped facilitate local involvement. There were four family-run food trucks and their production crew members in Solvang from May 26-28, 2016. We encourage everyone to watch this episode and see who won the challenge filmed here in Solvang. And we really don’t know who was eliminated,” said Tracy Farhad, executive director of the Solvang Conference and Visitor’s Bureau.

The Great Food Truck Race is a reality television show where seven real teams representing the country’s best food trucks hit the road to cook their way across America. Each week, the teams that sell the most food are advanced to the next episode; the losing team drives home.

In the end one food truck remains, and the team behind the wheel wins a $50,000 grand prize. These are great characters with fascinating existing relationships. They’re husbands and wives, brothers and sisters, and best friends. And they’re already running the most-successful, -outrageous food trucks in the country — but never quite like this.

The host, Tyler Florence, explains the rules: In each city, the teams will start with a limited budget, then they’ll have the weekend to strategize and sell. The episode that was filmed in Solvang had the trucks stationed all over town. Anything else they buy, from more raw ingredients to ads on local TV, came out of their profits. Whomever makes the most money is safe. The truck that makes the least amount of money is eliminated.
