Santa Ynez Valley Transit wants to hear from the community about its transportation needs and priorities as it works to improve its public transit service.

The City of Solvang is conducting a community survey and holding community workshops as it prepares a five-year plan to prioritize service changes and improvements for Santa Ynez Valley Transit (SYVT) on Wednesday, Jan. 25 and Thursday, Jan. 26 at two locations in the valley. SYVT offers scheduled bus service traveling along Highway 146 from Buellton to Solvang, as well as a loop along Alamo Pintado Avenue and Refugio Road. Input from riders and non-riders alike will help ensure the plan continues to help community members get where they need to go.

“We want to make sure the people of Buellton, Solvang, Los Olivos, and Santa Ynez can use SYVT to get to their preferred destinations at the times they most need to travel,” said Matt van der Linden, the City’s Public Works Director. “This is the community’s chance to help shape the future of public transit.”

The community survey is open to all who live or work in the Santa Ynez Valley. It can be accessed online at www.syvt-srtp-2017.com. Responses are requested by January 31, 2017. All survey participants will be entered into a random drawing for a $50 VISA gift card.

Community workshops will be held January 25 and 26, 2017 at the following times and locations. Workshops are free and open to the public.

Wednesday, January 25, 2017, 5:30-7 pm
Solvang Veterans’ Memorial Building (Legion Wing) 1745 Mission Drive, Solvang

Thursday, January 26, 2017, 5:30-7 pm
Buellton Community Recreation Center (Room A) 301 2nd St, Buellton

During each workshop, details regarding the potential improvements will be presented along with a roundtable discussion with community members and transit staff. Attendees will be invited to provide input as to service/program preferences and will have additional opportunities to complete the community survey.

Santa Ynez Valley Transit (SYVT) operates two fixed-routes serving the four communities of Buellton, Solvang, Los Olivos, and Santa Ynez; and Dial-A-Ride services for certified Americans with Disabilities (ADA) residents and seniors. For more information, visit www.syvt-srtp-2017.com or call 805-688-5452.
