Staff Report

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame singer-songwriter Bonnie Raitt, along with special guest Jon Cleary, is bringing her unique style of blues, rock and folk to the Chumash Casino Resort’s Samala Showroom at 8 p.m. on Friday, March 23. Tickets for the show are $75, $90 and $105.

A 10-time Grammy Award winner, Raitt is no stranger to a number prestigious lists, including Rolling Stone’s lists of 100 Greatest Singers of All Time, 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time and 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. Some of her greatest, chart-topping hits include “Something to Talk About,” “A Thing Called Love” and “I Can’t Make You Love Me.”

Raised by musicians, Raitt was inclined to the world of music and began playing the guitar at a very young age. In the late ‘60s, she attended Radcliffe College in Cambridge, Massachusetts, to study social relations and African studies. During her second year, she struck up a friendship with blues promoter Dick Waterman, which she recalls was “an opportunity that changed everything.” She left the university and moved to Philadelphia with Waterman to seriously pursue a music career.

Word quickly spread of the young red-haired blues woman. She was pursued by Warner Brothers, with whom she recorded and released seven studio albums, including her self-titled debut album in 1971. It wasn’t until she signed with Capitol Records in 1989 that she achieved new levels of popular and critical acclaim. It was also during this time that Raitt received her fourth Grammy Award for her duet “In the Mood” with John Lee Hooker on his album The Healer. Raitt followed up this success with three more Grammy Awards for her 1991 albumLuck of the Draw, which sold nearly 8 million copies in the United States. Three years later, she added two more Grammys with her second No. 1 album, Longing in Their Hearts. Raitt has since recorded five additional studio albums.

Joining her for the evening will be the New Orleans-based funk and R&B musician Jon Cleary. He is an accomplished pianist as well as a multi-instrumentalist, vocalist and songwriter.

Don’t miss an opportunity to see this highly decorated performer when she takes the stage in one of the most popular music venues in Santa Barbara County.

Located on Highway 246 in Santa Ynez, California, the Chumash Casino Resort is an age 21-and-older venue. Tickets for all events are available at the Chumash Casino Resort’s Club Indulge or online at www.chumashcasino.com.
