An armed robbery suspect was pursued by law enforcement personnel Wednesday afternoon and taken into custody near Bishop Diego High School, Santa Barbara police spokesman Anthony Wagner said.
The robbery took place in Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department jurisdiction, he added.
At 4:34 p.m., a Wireless Emergency Alert was sent out to cell phones all over Santa Barbara County, which said, “Pursuit ended in your area with police activity, shelter in place.”
Sheriff’s spokeswoman Kelly Hoover said the WEA was sent out erroneously.
A follow-up message was sent at 4:50 p.m. saying, “suspect in custody no further danger.”
No further details were immediately available.
