Alanna Tarkington has been elected to a three-year term on the board of directors of Santa Ynez Valley People Helping People (PHP).
She was a psychotherapist in private practice for many years and has a passion for helping people and animals. She is the author “Now It’s Our Turn,” a book published in 1998 focused on environmentalism and how women can change their lives and save the world.
Tarkington earned her BA Degree from Union college and her MA degree in clinical psychology from Antioch University of Ohio.
She has lived in Santa Barbara County since 1992 and full-time in the Santa Ynez since 2012.
“My greatest sense of accomplishment has been volunteering to make positive changes in the world, one small step at a time. I am honored to now be a part of People Helping People,” Tarkington said.
Since 1998, she has been on the board of directors of the Pet Adoptions Fund in Los Angeles, served as a board or council member for Santa Paula Animal Rescue Center, was a member of the Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Council, was appointed to the President’s Advisory Council of the National Wildlife Federation, and worked at the Women’s Clinic of Beverly Hills.
Founded in 1992, PHP is a nonprofit charity serving the Santa Ynez Valley, Los Alamos Valley, and the Gaviota Coast.
