As part of the Department of Water Resources annual maintenance program, the Coastal Branch Pipeline of the State Water Project will be shut down in November for routine repairs and maintenance. There will be no deliveries of state water to the City of Solvang beginning Friday, November 1, 2019 through Tuesday, November 18, 2019.
“Instead of a blend of 80% state water and 20% local water,” explains the City of Solvang’s Water Supervisor, Mike Mathews, “users will receive 100% local water. We encourage residents and businesses to conserve water during this time due to the large volume of local water consumed.”
Most users of state water will not experience any change in water. However, local water is known for being harder and having a different taste which some prefer to the blended water. Mathews advises users who have a water softening unit to adjust their unit to achieve the same soft-water they are used to if they find any undesired changes from the local water. For instance, glasses coming out of the dishwasher may have a slight cloudy look to them due to hard water deposits. Mathews assures water users that the water will continue to meet the same quality standards.
