Staff Report
The Santa Ynez Valley Union High School District has hired a new principal to take the helm of the Pirate ship. After an extensive interview process that involved staff, students, parents and community members, the unanimous choice for the position was Michele Borges.
With 23 years in secondary education, Borgess has been a math and computer science teacher, dean of students, vice principal and a high school principal in the Central Valley for the past eight years. She holds a master’s degree in Math and Computer Education.
“I’m thrilled to welcome Mrs. Borges as principal of SYVUHS,” said Superintendent Scott Cory. “Where we have leadership needs for the future, she has the professional background and expertise to meet those needs. She has a very strong background in curriculum and instruction and has a proven track record of building strong relationships and teams.”
Borges believes that teacher growth and support and student learning are at the core of what she does and that this mindset should drive all decisions. Another area of passion for Borgess is Career Technical Education. She has been responsible for the development of a business academy and is currently building a protective services academy.
“I am honored to have been selected as principal for Santa Ynez Valley Union High School. Words can’t express my excitement as I anticipate becoming a Pirate and meeting the staff, students, parents and community. I am looking forward to learning more about the great things happening at SYVUHS, and collaboratively working to nurture the greatness into excellence,” Borgess said.
She will officially start her new position on July 1.
