That’s not all folks for the nostalgia of watching Saturday morning cartoons as the Central Coast Film Society is bringing back some cartoon favorites from Popeye the Sailor Man, Betty Boop, Looney Toones, and several others Thanksgiving weekend. Come in your jammies at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 30 to Parks Plaza Theater in Buellton.
“With streaming services and programming changes, we noticed there is a different feeling to some of the classic cartoons a lot of us grew up watching with our favorite cereals. This will help introduce some classic animated characters like Popeye and Betty Boop to the younger generation,” said Daniel Lahr, executive director for the film society.
Lahr added the film society is also asking local filmmakers and media artists to submit their work or they are interested in getting involved.
“We want to also foster local professional and aspiring artists to get them more exposure and experience in the film industry,” Lahr added.
The film society is also hosting their first annual Student Film Competition which will be held on Jan. 11, 2020 at the San Luis Obispo County Library Community Room. The competition is open to any student high school to college level. The topic is Digital Distraction and films will be limited to 3 pages/3 minutes; 2 characters and 1 location. The content should be G, PG, or PG-13 (films outside that range will be disqualified) and accepted through Central Coast Film Society’s website until Dec. 31, 2019.
The cartoons will start at 9 a.m. and tickets are $5 per person, or free with paid membership. For more information becoming a member, submitting a film or to purchase tickets online log onto www.centralcoastfilmsociety.org.
