Staff Report
The Lompoc Youth Theatre (LYT) will hold auditions for singers, dancers and actors ages 8-18 for a summer theatrical camp, “Schoolhouse Rock Live! Jr.,” from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 19, at Dick DeWees Community and Senior Center, 1120 West Ocean Ave. in Lompoc.
Professionals will provide instruction and choreography for signing, dancing and acting. The conclusion of the camp will be the stage production of five shows.
The Emmy Award-winning Saturday morning educational cartoon series and pop culture phenomenon is now the basis for one of the most fun musicals ever to hit the stage. The fast-paced musical teaches lessons with clever, catchy tunes.
This energetic musical follows Tom, a young schoolteacher, who is nervous about his first day of teaching. He tries to relax by watching TV, when various characters representing facets of his personality emerge from the set and show him how to win his students over with imagination and music.
Memorable songs including “Just a Bill,” “Lolly, Lolly, Lolly” and “Conjunction Junction” bring his lesson plans vividly to life.
LYT camp will be held from 9 a.m. to noon July 9-27. Performances will take place Friday and Saturday, July 27-28 and Aug. 3-4.
The camp costs $325 if paid by June 15, which includes the cost of the script and camp T-shirt. For payment plan information, call Lompoc Parks and Rec at 805-875-8100.
