Staff Report

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 Flower Valley Golf Classic has been cancelled, the Lompoc Hospital District Foundation has announced.

The tournament, initially planned for May 15, was rescheduled to Oct. 23, but this week the decision was made by the foundation’s special events committee to cancel the 2020 tournament due to ongoing recommendations regarding social distancing and other efforts to curtail the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

The next Flower Valley Golf Classic tournament will be held on May 21, 2021, at the Mission Club in Vandenberg Village.

The tournament is the major fundraiser for the nonprofit Lompoc Hospital District Foundation. The 30-year-old foundation provides philanthropic support for capital improvements and equipment purchases for Lompoc Valley Medical Center (LVMC) and the Comprehensive Care Center, as well as offering an informative and educational health-related lecture series for the community.

The foundation’s fundraising efforts are ongoing despite the tournament’s cancellation, to enable the donation of funds to LVMC to buy eight patient monitoring systems for the hospital’s Post-Anesthesia Care Unit, or PAC-U. These systems are used on more than 1,500 patients annually.
