Staff Report

The U.S. Census Bureau is recruiting thousands of people across the country to help with the 2020 Census count.

A variety of temporary jobs, including census takers, recruiting assistants, office staff, and supervisory staff are available. In Santa Barbara County, positions will pay $16 to $22 per hour.

The census count occurs on April 1, though some jobs will extend beyond that date. About 90 percent of census responses are made by mail or online, so the positions do not involve door-to-door canvassing, officials said.

Candidates must complete an online job application, which includes questions about education, work, and other experience. Applicants must be at least 18 years old, have a valid Social Security number, and be a U.S. citizen.
