Staff Report

After interviewing 11 city residents for the position, the Solvang City Council appointed Planning Commissioner Daniel Johnson to the vacant seat on the council during a Jan. 8 Special Meeting.

The vacancy was created when former council member Ryan Toussaint won the November mayoral race and took office last month.

Out of the 11 residents who applied for the position, four had run for the council in the most recent general election: Edwin Skytt, Joan Jamieson, Kim Jensen and Kenny Esko New York. Both Skytt and Jamieson were the runners-up in their respective council seat races.

Johnson, a CPA and fifth generation Valley resident, had served on the Planning Commission since Feb. 2018.

After his appointment, Johnson shared his excitement about joining the new regime of council members.

“I’m excited to make these changes in Solvang,” Johnson said.
